Snappy Fax Changes     Snappy Fax Network Server Changes

Issue or Feature (Snappy Fax) Status Build
Fixed problem where BLOB (image) field was not updated when updating outgoing faxes submitted to the fax server. "Blob Field Is Null" Error. An additional context menu (popup menu) item has been added when right clicking on the outgoing fax log "Update Image from fax server". This menu item can be used to retrieve the fax image from the fax server for an item with a null BLOB field caused by this bug in previous versions. Fixed 4.35.2.2
The description in the 'routing' column was incorrectly showing 'manual fax' instead of 'network fax server' for items processed using the fax server software. Fixed 4.35.2.2
Fixed problem converting certain pdf files to an image. Fixed 4.35.2.2
A minor change was made to the fax engine to accommodate non-compliant modems that responded with 'OK' rather than 'CONNECT' as specified by the Group3 fax protocol at certain stages of negotiating session parameters with the remote fax. Fixed 4.35.2.2
Receive mode at startup option functionality was broken in last release Fixed 4.35.2.1
Final remaining printing issue fixed Fixed 4.35.1.3
If option to start snappy fax minimized was in effect and the user started snappy fax via a printing operation, it appeared as if nothing happened. This has been changed and the minimize on startup option is ignored in this case. Fixed 4.35.1.3
Fixed intermittent 'blob size is null' error on outgoing faxes Fixed 4.35.1.2
Import from server can now include partially received faxes eventhough the entire fax session was not successful. Fixed 4.35.1.2
Fixed erratic behavior when dragging fax log items to other folders or to trash folder Fixed 4.35.1.2
Other miscellaneous cosmetic and bug fixes Fixed 4.35.1.2
Build 4.34.x had a timing issue whereby the modem port might be reported as 'already' open. This issue should now be resolved. Fixed 4.35.1.1
Fixed problem with modem port not being closed in some situations Fixed 4.34.1.3
Fixed bug in build 4.34.1.1 when starting receive mode Fixed 4.34.1.2
Fixed problem with errors that occurred if a document was printed to the 'snappy fax printer' when snappy fax was not already running. The printer driver would start snappy fax but upon launch exceptions would be thrown and the file would not be processed. Fixed 4.34.1.1
Support for .docx, .xlsx and .pdf files were added to drag and drop and 'send to' Explorer context menu functionality. Added 4.34.1.1
Added command line option. You can now send a fax by starting snappy fax with command line arguments. Example: sf4.exe "Mr. Smith" "18008889999" "c:\my documents\quote.pdf" "R" "Y" "cover subject"

The last two arguments are optional, use "Y" if you want to send a cover page using the default template, followed by a subject. If there is a space in any argument (example the recipient name), it must be enclosed in double quotes.
Added 4.34.1.1
Miscellaneous bug fixes Fixed 4.34.1.1
The snappy fax printer driver has been updated in this build Updated 4.33.1.1
The Scan Manager has been changed slightly to eliminate some confusion and to fix a minor bug whereby the 'Append to current image' checkbox on the Scan Manager window was not always enabled. If there is an existing image in the main window's image viewer at the time a scan operation is started then snappy fax will assume that you DO NOT want to append your scanned images to the image in the image viewer when you finish the scanning operation. That is the 'append to current image' checkbox on the Scan Manager window will be UNCHECKED by default. If you DO want to append the scanned images to the image that is already loaded in the main window's image viewer then you MUST check that checkbox on the Scan Manager window or else the image in the image viewer will be discarded and only the images you scanned will be loaded in the image viewer on the main window.

Previously the default was to have the checkbox checked and this has caused users to inadvertedly leave it checked and that resulted in the fax containing the original image in the viewer plus the scanned images which was not always desired.
Changed 4.33.1.1
Watch folder processing now supports .docx and .xlsx file types Added 4.33.1.1
The Print | Print Current Image menu item was not always properly enabled eventhough the related toolbar button was Fixed 4.33.1.1
Capture Mode has been slightly changed, the procedure is the same except the individual entries in the sent fax log are no longer created and then deleted when capture mode is turned off. This results in a more efficient capture mode operation. Changed 4.33.1.1
Tiff files using LZW compression are now supported Added 4.33.1.1
Add option to general options 'Enable Codesite debug mode'. Do not use this option unless you are asked to do so by tech support or you or just plain curious :-). It creates debug logs that assist in tracking down stubborn issues that are not easily reproduced. Updated 4.33.1.1
The PDF rendering has been improved and should correctly render pdf files that could not be correctly rendered in previous versions. Updated 4.33.1.1
Fixed problem with right to left reading languages (such as Hebrew and Arabic) as it pertains to the cover page memo object on the 'Prepare Fax' screen. Fixed 4.33.1.1
Fixed an obscure bug in processing scheduled Queued faxes (does not apply to on demand items) Fixed 4.33.1.1
Windows 7 compatible printer driver is deployed in this release. The issues experienced in build 4.30.x with the driver have been resolved Added 4.32.1.1
The issue of duplicate incoming faxes being imported from the fax server have been resolved. The entire code base related to auto import of incoming faxes has been rewritten and with the addition of support routines in the fax server, this issue should be finally resolved. Changed 4.32.1.1
There was an issue with client using the fax server, if a client workstation had global privileges for outgoing faxes, it could not see faxes that had already been updated by the submitting workstation, this issue is fixed. Changed 4.32.1.1
Added a new option to settings->modem ... 'Use Software Flow Control', using this option might help resolve some issues with modems that do not properly implement hardware flow control Added 4.32.1.1
Processing Excel files using the 'Excel' button on the main window's toolbar was broken, this has been fixed. Fixed 4.32.1.1
Minor code changes forced by Windows 7 Changed 4.32.1.1

Fullscreen viewing from the server import window was broken Fixed 4.31.2.1
Snappy fax will now scan for valid modem com ports up to com 40, previously it only scanned to com 25. One user reported his modem was installed on com 40. Fixed 4.31.2.1
Fixed bugs in print preview window Fixed 4.31.2.1
Snappy fax was preventing system shutdown if it was running. Fixed 4.31.2.1
Changing the schedule of a queued fax via the context menu was not respecting all changes to the timed schedule. Fixed 4.31.2.1
The new printer driver deployed starting with 4.30.x has been removed. This new driver was deployed in order to obtain Windows 7 compatibility and for most users it worked fine. But for a sufficient number of other users in became a 'science experiment gone horribly wrong'. We have no choice but to rollback to the previous driver which was so dependable across the user board but still is not compatible with Windows 7. We should have Windows 7 compatibility very soon with the legacy driver that has been in use with Snappy fax version 4 since its inception up until build 4.30. Build 4.31.1.1 will uninstall the problem driver and re-deploy the legacy driver. In addition the installer will now properly install the correct driver version on either Windows 32bit or Windows 64bit platforms from a single installation file. There is no longer a need for a separate download for each platform. Many users do not know whether they are using 32 or 64 bit Windows and it is not immediately obvious which version they have. The installer will detect the platform and install the correct driver for that version of Windows. The installation file is sf4setup.exe targeted for both Win 32 and Win 64 Platforms. Fixed 4.31.1.1
Drag and Drop files from Windows explorer to the image view in snappy fax was inadvertedly broken, this has been fixed. Fixed 4.31.1.1
When using Windows Explorer's 'Send to' context menu, an existing image in the image viewer in snappy fax would be discarded even if the user responded correctly to the prompt regarding appending the 'send to' image to the existing image. This has been fixed. Fixed 4.31.1.1
The confirmation that prints for outgoing faxes (if that option is selected) now includes a graphic of the first "real" page in the fax in a reduced size. By "real" page we mean that the cover page is not shown but rather the first page in the document other than the cover page. If the fax only contains a cover page then it is shown on the confirmation (acknowledgement). Changed 4.30.2.2
The system tray icon's hint did not always reflect the true state of receive mode. Fixed 4.30.2.2
Files submitted via the Third Party Interface with upper case file names were not being properly processed. Fixed 4.30.2.2
The edit handler on the cover page designer was broken, text objects could not be edited using the F2 key. Fixed 4.30.2.2
There was a bug in the new printer driver that cause some users to experience problems with other applications shutting down due to DEP errors. Another user reported problems with snappy fax preventing system shutdown, this also is believed to have been caused by a bug in the printer driver. The printer driver developer has resolved these issues and a new driver is included in this build. Fixed 4.30.2.1
Live update was changed to accommodate the fact that one download file will now install on either 32 or 64bit Windows platforms Changed 4.30.2.1
Changed location of print output files from %localappdata% to %userappdata% which may have effected some Vista 32bit users adversely and we needed to maintain consistency with the storage location of other snappy fax files. Changed 4.30.1.2
This version is tagged build 4.30 to distance it from prior versions because a new virtual printer driver is now being deployed with snappy fax. The new virtual printer driver has the following benefits:

  • Is compatible with Windows 7
  • Faster image rendering with improved image quality
  • Compatible with all versions of QuickBooks and Quicken
  • The printer driver installer will install on both 32-bit and
and 64-bit Windows which eliminates the need for a separate
download file depending on target platform.
Changed 4.30.1.1
Settings (calling card settings) no longer require entry of PIN number when entering calling card information. Changed 4.30.1.1
The procedure for adding recipients to the selected recipients list on the 'Prepare Fax' screen was relatively slow when adding a large number of entries due to the logic of prohibiting the addition of duplicates. This was especially annoying when adding many hundreds or even thousands of recipients from the address book. Code improvements in this procedure now make this process almost instaneous regardless of the number of selected recipients. Changed 4.30.1.1
Fixed problem with exception being raised when attempting to add transmission log file to database Fixed 4.30.1.1
Fixed problem with outgoing fax image not being printed when options were set to do so. Fixed 4.30.1.1
Added code to fix problem with Windows aborting snappy fax due to Data Execution Prevention. Fixed 4.30.1.1
Changed the method of scanner detection at startup which was causing snappy fax to hang on some systems. Fixed 4.30.1.1
Deprecated the option 'Disable window transitions and effects' in settings -> visual effects. This option is now always in effect and all transitions and effects have been removed because of incompatibility with a few video cards. Fixed 4.30.1.1
Fixed problem with signing of faxes with a digital signature always appearing at bottom left regardless of which option was selected. Also, the image component on the signature settings page was not properly constrained as to size. Fixed 4.30.1.1
Data tablen controls are now disable during an update of server status for submitted faxes. This speeds up the update process. Changed 4.30.1.1
Signing faxes (digital signature) did not work properly when using the fax server.

Note: When using the fax server, if you want your cover page signed then you will need to place the signature graphic on the cover page template using the cover page designer since the fax server has not built in logic to sign a cover page or a fax page. The fax pages themselves will be signed before submitting to the fax server for processing.
Fixed 4.30.1.1
The import fax from fax server procedure has been rewritten which should resolve the issue some users were experiencing with duplicate imports. Fixed 4.26.5.1

Auto printing of incoming fax images has been moved to a secondary thread which serves to restart fax receive mode much quicker. Previously receive mode was not restarted until the printing operation had completed and when long faxes were involved, receive mode might not be restarted soon enough to catch the next incoming call. Fixed 4.26.1.1
On the 'Prepare Fax' screen, when selecting large number of recipients using 'Select all in group' was very slow, this has been resolved. Fixed 4.26.1.1
Fixed problem with progress dialog covering the OK dialog after emptying trash. This gave the user the impression that the application was frozen. Fixed 4.26.1.1
Fixed problem with progress dialog covering information dialog when submitting faxes to fax server. This gave the user the impressiopn that the application was frozen. Fixed 4.26.1.1
Items will now be imported from the fax server even if the session result was not 'OK' as long as there is an image in the BLOB field for that record. ie, even if the session did not complete it will be imported if there is any image data present. Changed 4.26.1.1
Fax progress windows are now docked to the main window in a separate tab page which facilitates minimizing Snappy Fax. While a fax session is in progress, simply minimize the main window. If the progress window is undocked by the user and snappy fax's main window is minimized during an active fax session, the progress window will be re-docked before minimizing. Changed 4.26.1.1
Forwarding to email and printing of incoming faxes will now be performed if any image data is present even if the session did not have an OK result. Added/small> 4.26.1.1
Options will now allow a com port selection and save it even if a modem name selection is not made on the modem settings screen. Added 4.26.1.1

On the 'Prepare Fax' screen, on first invocation, the top node in the address book listing is now focused automatically. Fixed 4.26.1.1
A new option 'Modem driver supports EventWord' has been added to the modem settings window. The default is true. This is true of nearly all modem drivers but this option may be unchecked if a modem driver does not support this feature. If this option is unchecked then Windows API calls will be made instead of examining the EventWord to processing incoming modem data. Some USR modem drivers do not use the EventWord, there may be others and we do not currently have a list of those that do not. Unchecking this option should not have an adverse effect when using modems that do support EventWord processing but you should contact technical support with a description of the problem you are having before unchecking this option. A symptom indicating the propriety of unchecking this option might be a failure of the fax engine in receiving page data from a remote sender. Added 4.26.1.1
